Swiss Re: 2017 worst ever year for cat losses

Global insured losses from catastrophes reached $144bn in 2017, the highest-ever recorded in a single year, according to Swiss Re's latest Sigma report.
The total is a 6 percent increase on the December estimate of $136bn, which had not incorporated that month's Californian wildfire events.
It is also significantly more than the previous ten-year average figure of $58bn, and 2016's figure of $56bn.
Hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria (HIM) accounted for $92bn in insured losses, making 2017 the second costliest...
