SpaceX spy satellite thought to be total loss: reports

A US spy satellite that reportedly failed to reach orbit appears to be a total loss, according to news outlets including The Wall Street Journal and the Financial Times.
Space Exploration Technologies' (SpaceX's) Falcon 9 rocket was the launch vehicle for the satellite, which was propelled from Cape Canaveral, Florida, on Sunday (7 January). The intelligence-gathering satellite was built by the aerospace company Northrop Grumman.
