As AmTrust stumbled from one crisis to another last May there was much talk in industry circles about the long-term future of an insurer that had lost the confidence of its outside investors.
A sequence of missteps had sent shares from a high of almost $35 in mid-2015 to just over $12 as the company struggled to shake off concerns about transparency, reserves and reporting - despite regularly posting RoEs in line with some of the sector's better performers.
